American Truck Simulator – Wyoming Review

American Truck Simulator: Baggs - Wyoming [Open Beta 1.40] - YouTube

SCS Software’s American Truck Simulator, ironically made by Europeans, has been trucking along (couldn’t help myself) for a while now. The game, plus all of its DLC, has developed quite a loyal fan base. And I see why—it’s a super relaxing game that you can chill with while in your home and travel to far-off places (at least digitally) from your gaming PC or gaming laptop.

And now we have Wyoming. Wyoming is the tenth state to be added to the game. The next one is going to be Texas, which is also highly anticipated.

Wyoming is an expansion that pushes the sim’s official map into a state that’s renowned for its striking beauty and wide, open landscapes. It also renders the game’s scenery complexity a little bit further.

After teasing fans for several weeks with a slow trickle of minor reveals and informational tidbits, SCS Software has released a full overview video that showed off various famous landmarks of Wyoming, both natural and manmade, in American Truck Simulator. Of course, now they’ve finally released it much to the delight of salivating gamers.

In the game, the visuals look nothing short of magical. Especially when compared to older environments in American Truck Simulator, Wyoming is clearly alive and very well-detailed. This is the state known for being a geographical giant. To the west, it’s covered by the Rocky Mountains. The east contains the flat and open High Plains. Two massive national parks are also located within its borders as well—Grand Teton and the world-famous Yellowstone National Park.

But despite it being big on sightseeing, not many people actually live in Wyoming, which is another benefit. It’s the least most populated state in all of the USA, even though it’s the 10th largest in terms of landmass.

Although the state’s population numbers are low, its road network is well-traveled by truckers. The most popular cargo types are livestock, farm crops, coal, and natural gas. All of these resources are accurately showcased in the DLC, so SCS Software has clearly done its homework.

Wyoming is also known for having some pretty wicked weather patterns during different parts of the year, which you’ll also see as you cruise your truck through this gorgeous state.

For the Wyoming DLC, here’s what you can expect:

  • Deliver to and from 10 cities and discover 14 settlements.
  • Discover and deliver to Wyoming’s important industries like coal and soda ash, farms and agriculture, and railyards.
  • Haul livestock cargo to new cattle auction houses.
  • Drive on the Highway to Heaven.
  • Haul cargo on the I-80, the second-longest Interstate highway in the US.
  • See wildlife unique to Wyoming including bison.
  • Visit landmarks like Devils Tower National Monument and part of the Yellowstone National Park.
  • Admire accurate representations of cities like Cheyenne, Casper, Jackson, and Sheridan.
  • New Events

In order to celebrate the new DLC, developer SCS Software has launched the Cruising Wyoming Event, which runs until November 7. The event tasks the community to drive 80 million miles in the state. Can you do it?

However, it won’t be simply driving. For the miles driven to be counted, you need to use External Contracts or the External Market and have a World of Trucks-connected profile. The jobs need to be at least 100 miles each and truckers must finish the delivery to or from each of the 10 cities in Wyoming.

Those who join the event get a personal World of Trucks Achievement along with a Wyoming Bison-themed ATS truck paint job Steam inventory item. When the community meets the objective, truckers who were able to achieve their personal goal get the hanging Jade Bison ornament Steam inventory item.

Rating: 8.6/10
