Mihoyo has revealed the next big thing coming to their action-adventure RPG game, Genshin Impact. The Version 1.2 Update called The Chalk Prince and the Dragon will arrive on December 23, 2020, for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, as well as for Android and iOS mobile devices.
The new update will open the Dragonspine area in the game, a frozen mountain range located in the south region of Mondstandt. This place is described to be one of the most inhospitable areas in Teyvat. According to the stories in the game, Dragonspine holds the remains of the venomous dragon named Durin after the Anemo Archon Dvalin defeated him.
New Game Mechanic
As stated, the Dragonspine is a rocky terrain filled with only ice and snow. Thus, it will introduce a new mechanic in the game called Subzero Climate. According to the developers, when the player explores Dragonspine, they will experience Sheer Cold status, which can accumulate rapidly in a subzero climate. Once the Sheer Cold status reaches its limit, the character will begin to lose his/her health. The Sheer Cold Status will also deteriorate even faster if the player gets into water or starts swimming in Dragonspine. To avoid this from happening, there are things on the map that can help you regain warmth while exploring, such as Fireplace, Heat Totems, or Warmth Seelies.
New Playable Characters
Version 1.2 Update will also bring two new playable characters in the game:
- Albedo – is a five-star Geo-sword user. He is the Chief Alchemist and captain of the investigation team of Mondstadt’s Knights of Favonius.
- Ganyu – is a five-star Cryo-bow user. She is the secretary at Yuehai PAvilion, who has the blood of the qilin, an illuminated beast.
New Items and Artifacts
Aside from the new characters, map, and characters, the new update will also bring weapons and artifacts in the game.
- Festering Desire
- Frost Bearer
- Snow-Tombed Starsilver
- Dragonspine Spear
- Blizzard Strayer
- Heart of Depth
