British video game developer Rebellion Developments just announced four upcoming Sniper Elite Games. The four new games include the fifth installment in the Sniper Elite series, a Sniper Elite VR title, an Ultimate Edition for Switch, and Sniper Elite V2 Remastered.
The news was announced by CEO Jason Kingsley during a live stream. He also discussed that the games are currently in varying stages of development.
Sniper Elite V2 Remastered is scheduled for release this year for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It brings the original game and all its downloadable content to the modern platform with enhanced visuals, featuring 4K resolution and HDR support. According to the developers, the remastered version will also bring new playable characters in the game, as well as a new photo mode, and an expanded multiplayer campaign.
Another game to be released this year is the Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition which will be released for Nintendo Switch. The game is said to feature local wireless multiplayer and motion controls.
Sniper Elite VR, on the other hand, is currently in development with Just Add Water studio. It will be the first standalone VR title in the series. Although no details were revealed yet, Rebellion promises fans that they will release a “full reveal” trailer of the game later this year.
Last but not least, the fourth game that was announced is said to be the fifth core game in the series a.k.a. Sniper Elite 5. However, the studio made it clear that there won’t be any details to be published and released until 2020. So perhaps, it’s safe to say that the fifth installment in the series is still in its early development.
Sniper Elite is a popular tactical shooter video game which is known for its less direct approach to combat. The player controls the character of a sniper who takes down his enemies from a distance and uses stealth to complete his missions. Its first game, Sniper Elite, was released in October 2005, while the latest game in the series titled Sniper Elite 4 was released in February 2017.
