Fans of the survival horror game Outlast will be thrilled to know that Red Barrels has confirmed that Outlast 3 will indeed happen.
The news came along with Red Barrels announcement that Outlast and Outlast 2 are coming to Switch in 2018. In a Facebook post, the developers gave everyone a summarized outline about the plans they have for the Outlast franchise.
First things first, Red Barrels confirmed that there will be no DLC for Outlast 2, unlike its prequel. Although they’ve considered many options, none of them felt appropriate to be added in the second game. As they said, Outlast 2 was created to let players feel like they are a rat in a maze, without any idea of what’s waiting for them outside the labyrinth. With that said, the game felt complete, and a DLC felt unnecessary.
But what makes the post more exciting is that fact that they mentioned something about the sequel; they “will, at some point, make an Outlast 3.” While waiting, fans can check out The Murkoff Account’s epilogue, a comic from Red Barrels which takes place right after the events of the second game. The story also offers some insights into the events in the game.
Lastly, Red Barrels also confirmed that they are working on something a lot of the fans have been asking for. It isn’t the sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but something that will give them a distinct experience in the Outlast universe. For now, they can’t say anything more about its development aside from that fact that its development is said to be “pretty challenging.” But if all goes well in the project, Red Barrels assured that they will reveal more about the project.
With that said, all we can do now is wait and see what Red Barrels has in store for us. But for the meantime, we’re probably going to re-play Outlast and Outlast 2 on our gaming laptops while waiting for the new game to be released.
