2D games are timeless. Even with all the visually stunning 3D games in the market, we can’t help but still love them. Why? It’s because 2D games make us reminiscent of our younger days and the games we used to play. The games that made an impact on our lives include Super Mario, Pacman, Legend of Zelda, and Final Fantasy.

If you happen to be a fan of 2D games, here are some of the newly released 2D games in the market that you should give a try.

To The Moon

To The Moon will introduce you to a story-driven game about two doctors traversing backward through a dying man’s memory to artificially fulfill his last wish. The game offers a story full of heart, simple but poignant. It will let you take control of the two main protagonists, Doctor Rosalene and Dr. Watts, as they piece puzzled events together to complete their mission and fulfill their patient’s wish to go to the moon. The game is developed and published by Freebird Games, creators of A Bird Story and Finding Paradise.

Undertale is a unique 2D RPG game which gives you a choice of sparing the lives of your enemies. The game lets you take control of a human who falls underground and into a world filled with monsters. To go home, you must find your way out by traveling through this unknown world. Encounter deadly monsters, and negotiate out of danger by using its unique battle system. This indie game was developed by tobyfox and was released last September 2015.

Owlboy is an adventure game that lets you fly and explore a brand new world in the skies. You play as the mute character Otus, who struggles to live up to the expectations of the owl-hood. The game will let you pick up friends and bring them with you as you go on a journey. Overcome obstacles, defeat monsters, and discover hidden secrets. Owlboy is “a love letter” to pixel art that 2D game lovers will surely enjoy.

Rimworld introduces a sci-fi colony simulation that is driven by an AI storyteller. It lets you manage your own colony and your colonists’ moods, needs, wounds, and illness. To survive, you must also build structures, produce food and take care of farm animals. Decorate your own colony and make it a pleasurable place to live. Protect and defend them from attackers such as hostile tribes, space pirates, and ancient killing machines. Rimworld is inspired by Dwarf Fortress, Dune, and Firefly.

Don’t Starve Together

The survival game, Don’t Starve Together, is the standalone multiplayer expansion of Don’t Starve. The game will introduce you to an unexplored world full of strange creatures, dangers, and surprises. To survive, you must gather resources, craft items and build structures that will match your survival style. Play with your friends in a private game or work with other players online to survive the harsh environment and do whatever it takes to survive.
