From the creators of the popular graphic puzzle games Myst and Riven comes a whole new adventure game for players to explore, Obduction. The game, which was originally released for Microsoft Windows and OS X gaming desktops and laptops, will soon have a virtual reality version for Oculus Rift.
The game focuses on the story of a human transported into an alien planet that has several scattered pieces of human elements in its environment. Your primary goal is to find your way home through exploring and solving puzzles.
Let’s take a closer look at this game:
The game starts with the character walking at the park at night when a strange organic artifact fell from the sky and transported him in a small sphere on an alien planet. In this place called Hunrath, you’ll find pieces of Earth scattered within the world’s landscape including a country house and a small western mining town. Hologram recordings are also left behind in Hunrath, revealing that several humans from across the 20th and 21st century have been abducted and brought to the planet. Adding to all the oddity is a strange kludge kiosk that will welcome your character upon his arrival at Hunrath.
In this game, the player’s character has been abducted from Earth by aliens and transported to another planet. Your primary goal is to try and find your way back home. The game offers a First-Person perspective, where the player must explore different worlds to solve puzzles and make decisions that will influence how the game ends.
Obduction has a node-based point and click system and also features traditional navigational controls. Several objects in the game can be selected for players to examine and help them discover the hidden features for them to solve the puzzles.
Review – Conclusion
Obduction has received favorable reviews from several reviewing sites, noting that the game has become a “worthy successor” to Cyan’s Myst. Destructoid described it as “a beautiful, technically-composed game with an innovative premise.” While Polygon stated that its developer Cyan had succeeded again in creating “another adventure that feels truly timeless.”
The game offers players a beautiful and interplanetary puzzle game, where they can interact and explore things to solve problems. Its appealing art and graphics will immerse you into its magical world. The puzzles are challenging and are gratifying to resolve. But what mystery lovers will truly love about this game is that it provides several endings which depend on the player’s gameplay.
If you love playing puzzle games, then Obduction is a game you must try.
