French video game publisher Ubisoft has revealed that an Assassin’s Creed TV series is currently in the works. Last year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced that the company was in talks with Netflix for a series. However, he didn’t reveal which Ubisoft property might be spun into a show. Still, that didn’t stop fans from guessing that it was Assassin’s Creed Ubisoft because it is the company’s biggest and most recognized franchise.

Director and geek icon Adi Shankar, later on, confirmed this and said that he will create an original Assassin’s Creed anime series.

“At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed,” Shankar posted on his official Facebook page. “And to create an original story set in it as an anime series.”

Shankar’s popularity has been rising. Aside from producing Netflix’s Castlevania series, he has also helped produce 2012’s Dreed and has worked on several genre shorts such as Power Rangers and the Venom: Truth in Journalism.

Considering his work on Castlevania, we believe that Shankar can actually do a great job in creating an Assassin’s Creed animated series. Although his statement is not entirely insightful, the fact that he mentioned that the story will be original gives us fans something to speculate about. Whether an original story means that we might see a new character, we’re still hoping that we’re going to see an animated version of Ezio come to life. But considering the endless supply of Assassins featured in the franchise, it would be easy for Ubisoft and Shankar to create a new character for the series.

As of now, no date is known on when Assassin’s Creed will be shown. And Ubisoft has yet to make an official statement about the details on the said project. As we all know, the publisher has been trying to create an Assassin’s Creed TV series for years, right alongside its efforts to develop a film adaptation. And with the two finally coming true, we believed that the franchise will grow even more popular.

So as we wait for more news, might as well reminisce the game and play AC on your gaming PCs and laptops for a while.
